Puma Racing Body?

On day as I was going through some various Puma Racing photos, I noticed that there was one car that really stood out to me. I loved look of the car, but I could not figure out what was so eye catching about it. It was an older Tubarao series like many of the others that I had been looking at, but the lines were a bit different. That is when I noticed that this particular car's body was slightly different than all of the others that I had seen before. The car's wheel well openings were taller so the car sat much lower than a regular Puma GT. Was this a special racing body made by Puma or was it a custom modification made by the owner? I know that Puma made a light weight racing body via special order, but I had never heard of a modified mold that housed different wheel well openings. I asked the guys over a www.purringpumas.com and they had not seen any "special" racing bodies like the one pictured below. Unfortunately, they were not aware of the history of this car, so I was at a loss for quite a while.

Fortunately, Douglas Freire saw my post on the forum asking about the history of this car and he told me that he was familiar with both of the race cars pictured below. Essentially, both of these Pumas race in the Super Classic race in Brazil which allows for certain race car modifications. The Puma in question, #10, had it's wheel well openings modified so that the car could sit much lower which gave it better aerodynamics and handling characteristics. In addition, you will also notice the custom opening in the front end that allows cool air to flow over an oil radiator or perhaps a traditional radiator for water-cooled Puma conversions. So now the mystery is solved. The Pumas below received custom modifications for racing which were not originally part of the original Puma design.

Douglas, I would personally like to thank you for solving this question of mine and sharing your knowledge with the rest of us.

Here are some more pictures of car #10 with the modified body from Super Classic. Be sure and check out the other Puma racing pics by clicking here.
